Engineering Manager

Our client, a well-known cheese manufacturing company in the Western Cape, has a vacancy for an Engineering Manager who will ultimately be responsible to ensure that all assets are performing to optimum standards. The successful candidate will take the lead in identifying opportunities for improvement in People, Processes as well as Assets and the implementation of an appropriate asset management strategy for the operation [Policy, Strategy, Improvement Plan].

Key Responsibilities

  • Effective execution and monitoring of the operations planned maintenance program through audits, inspections, and assessments in respect of workmanship, compliance with standards, operating procedures, policies, and regulations as well as equipment and initiation of corrective action plans
  • Ensure that the quality of maintenance is maintained and improved, where needed, to minimise unplanned downtime of key equipment and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Ensure overall effectiveness of maintenance through the facilitation of failure analysis techniques, driving of corrective actions, identification of recurrent failures, and the implementation of preventative actions
  • Facilitate a three-five-year maintenance management strategy for the operation and ensure scheduled remediation according to inspection and audit findings
  • Play a decisive role in the preparation of schedules and the supervision of major works/shutdowns
  • Plan and maintain the critical spares, create, plan and maintain electrical and mechanical apparatus
  • Provide direction and input for the specifications of new equipment and conduct maintenance surveys together with the OEM for all new equipment before commissioning and establish the maintenance strategy and task lists to be adopted
  • Ensure that the maintenance personnel are efficiently skilled to ensure overall effective maintenance through selection, training, motivation, and development
  • Effectively manage the maintenance materials
  • Ensure that workshop facilities and workshop tooling are in place and appropriate for the maintenance tasks that need to be performed, are complying with existing best practice relating to workshop standards, environmental control, material flow as well as OHSA and domestic requirements
  • Ensure continuous improvement through research and investigation of the latest technology trends and proposal of implementation plans to incorporate these into the business

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineering Degree [Mechanical or Electrical]
  • Extensive experience in the maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in a manufacturing environment
  • Conversant with OHSA Act
  • Knowledge of implementing planned maintenance systems
  • Must have a Government Certificate of Competency [GCC]
  • Formal Root Cause Failure Analysis training will be an advantage
  • Must be computer literate [MS Office]
  • Must be able to manage resources
  • Must be able to lead and manage people
